People are always asking to see more process… so here we go! Some color comps for a new painting I’m working on, inspired by my sister’s pictures from her study abroad in Japan. This is generally how I start out - an initial idea sketch (far left), although this sketch is a little more polished than usual, then throw on some rough grey scale, and generate some color ideas. This painting will probably change a lot as it moves forward, and there are still some composition issues to work out; but since it’s just for fun I went ahead to my favorite part (color) before really nailing down the sketch (not necessarily an advisable approach, and I implore you not to copy my laziness). Now to get back to paying work before the afternoon is done! *By the way, I’d be interested in hearing which colors people prefer…
